our story.
Our profession is Concrete.
Our Passion is service.
In the summer of 1986, sixth-grader Lothar began working weekends and summers for his dad’s company, Finer Finish. Under his father’s guidance, he quickly learned the basics of the trade, starting with pushing a wheelbarrow and loading a shovel. His father’s wisdom, “If you fill up the front, the back will fall off,” taught him the importance of balance, precision, and quality.
What began as a weekend job grew into a formative experience, shaping Lothar’s work ethic and skills as he dedicated every summer to mastering the craft of concrete until he graduated high school.
From colleagues to co-founders, Lothar Miesel and Chris Parks embark on a journey of partnership, passion, and creativity in concrete.
In 1994, former colleagues Lothar and Chris Parks, who had known each other since 1986, founded Indiana Michigan Concrete. Chris relocated from Jackson, MI, to South Bend to launch the business with Lothar. Driving around in a blue Ford F250, they demonstrated their passion for people and concrete through their work. They believed in the creative potential of concrete and valued the character of the people they served.
Their commitment to both craftsmanship and community helped establish a strong foundation for Indiana Michigan Concrete.
A new chapter in 2009. Lother’s journey of self-discovery and professional reinvention renewed his passion for quality concrete work.
In 2009, after selling Indiana Michigan Concrete, Lothar went on a journey of self-discovery, moving to Ohio and Tennessee. During this period, he worked for another concrete firm, started an urgent care practice in Tennessee, and spent time with his family. Through his experiences, Lothar realized his dissatisfaction with the industry’s standards and developed a strong desire to do things the right way.
An opportunity brought him back to South Bend, where he did excavation work and built the South Bend Police Dept. Firing Range, reigniting his passion for quality and excellence in concrete work.
The launch of Crown Concrete—a commitment to craftsmanship, community and genuine care.
In 2017, Lothar launched Crown Concrete in Elkhart, IN, embodying the principles of art and service. For Lothar, concrete work is more than a job—it’s a way of showing love to neighbors, clients, and colleagues. Crown Concrete stands out not only for its exceptional craftsmanship but also for its genuine commitment to treating people right.
Lothar’s dedication to doing the job correctly and ethically ensures that every project reflects his deep care for the community and the craft.
